We need to talk. (X)
"We need to talk."
1. You are screwed.
2. The end of your relationship.
想要和對方結束一段關係,"We need to talk."
(O)Can we talk?
(O)Can I talk to you?
(O)We need to catch up.
(X)I have something to tell you. Can I ask you out?
(O) I have something to tell you. Can we talk outside?
(X) The meeting is just a waste of time. I think I’ll make a pass.
(O) The meeting is just a waste of time. I think I’ll pass.
I think I’ll pass。而make a pass則是「挑逗、勾引」之意。
(X) You’re really an easy person.
(O) You’re really an easy-going person.
(X) Let me drop you here.
(O) Let me drop you off here.
(X) I met Wendy on the street yesterday. She looked great.
(O) I ran into Wendy in town yesterday. She looked great.
跟某位女性meet on the street是不合宜的講法,可能讓人誤以為對方是在街上拉客的性工作者,應改用run into或meet someone by chance表示「不期而遇」。
