Embracing◆Your Inner Finn 「精芬」漫畫 引爆熱潮! Let’s find out why people in China find it so easy to relate to a fictional Finnish character. 我們來一探究竟為何中國人很容易就能對一個虛構的芬蘭漫畫角色感同身受。
Imagine that you book a ticket on the Orient Express◆. Excited, you show up to your bunk◆, only to find that you’re sharing a small room on board the train with a total stranger. If you’re from Finland, this is a situation that would be considered a Finnish nightmare. That’s also the title of a book by author Karoliina Korhonen, who has struck a chord with fans in China. Finnish Nightmares follows a cartoon stick figure◆ called Matti. His creator says Matti is a typical Finn. He prefers to keep to himself, and finds most social interactions◆awkward. Why are Finns like this? First of all, Finland is a large country with a small population. So, there is a lot of empty space, and Finns prefer having space to themselves to being in crowded situations. In addition, a big part of Finnish culture is practicing emotional restraint◆. They value modesty◆, and calmly endure any hardships that might come their way. Rather than displaying their happiness in an outward manner, they prefer to be quietly satisfied when things go well.
